Local Instructor Provides Tips for Music Lovers Switching to Digital
St. John’s held the third and final virtual webinar of the return of its popular Technology Tuesdays Series on Tuesday, March 30. The topic was Digital Music Mania as part of the series theme of Digital Media Madness. Over thirty seniors logged in to hear from local technology instructor Daniel Jones about purchasing and organizing music this digital age.
The webinar began with a historical look back at how music collections were stored in the past and the types of music players from–record player to computer–people have used through the decades. A description of apps was helpful for viewers to get oriented to the major part of the discussion, which was around the current music apps available for the purchase, storage, and archiving of digital music today.
Step by step instruction on how to purchase music online, how to stream music, and the benefits and features of the different music platforms available such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora.
The final part of the webinar gave listeners a good overview on the accessories to purchase to enhance the listening experience. From Bluetooth speakers to earbuds, there are many options to consider depending on the listener’s preferences.
Sharing this type of instruction with seniors is nothing new to instructor Daniel Jones. Jones is an independent consultant/instructor based in Rochester, NY, who provides both private in-home one-on-one instruction, as well as small-size courses and seminars at various community centers, independent living and assisted living communities. Jones has developed computer, internet and digital technology programs for Lifespan’s Lily Café and Senior Options For Independence (SOFI) at Fairport Baptist Homes. He has also taught courses and seminars through Lifespan, Valley Manor, Oasis Institute, Crimson Ridge Meadows, The Summit at Brighton, Baywinde, Eastside YMCA, Perinton Community Center, and The Highlands At Pittsford.
St. John’s is pleased to have brought Jones back in, not only for this webinar series, but he also serves as an instructor for our senior residents at St. John’s Meadows and Bricktsone by St. John’s, both for individual lessons and large group events.
St. John’s hopes to have Daniel Jones back in Fall 2021 for another compelling Technology Tuesdays series on topics of interest to seniors. Look for upcoming events on the St. John’s website.
