Coffeehouse Series Returns to St. John’s Meadows
St. John’s Meadows’ famous Coffeehouse Series has returned for the season. The resident-inspired weekly program features various guest lecturers who are experts in their fields, perfectly paired with coffee and sweet treats prepared by St. John’s Dining Services. This ongoing series started back in 2009, and is held during the fall and winter months, every Wednesday. Speakers are chosen by the Coffeehouse Committee to inspire thought-provoking and engaging discussions. Sessions take place in Briarwood’s Multipurpose Room from 6:15 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m.
Speakers So Far…
October 4, 2023: Starting off the season was speaker, Suzanne Schnittman. She is a retired professor of American History with a PhD from the University of Rochester. The now independent scholar shared her stories and knowledge of woman’s suffrage and rights within the abolitionist movement.
October 11, 2023: Dr. Charles Morgan spoke on substance abuse and addiction in New York State, specifically the uptick in addiction following the pandemic. He recently retired as the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse’s Medical Director.
October 18, 2023: Recently retired WXXI program announcer, Julia Figueras presented on her extensive career in public radio and working for WXXI. Her career focused on music ranging from classical to rock to jazz.
