RIT Students Visit St. John’s Home for Valentine’s Party

Student volunteers from the Rochester Institute of Technology  (RIT) returned to St. John’s Home for an afternoon of games and Valentine’s treats.

This event is part of an ongoing partnership with the school to promote intergenerational opportunities for the residents and students. Programs with RIT like last year’s Trick-or-Treat Extravaganza and Cupid Shuffle Prom create fun and engaging moments for all involved.

One student says, “We have really nice chats with the folks here, we love visiting.”

Residents Dolores Rycenga and Jacqueline Bailey enjoy chocolate and word puzzles.

This year’s Valentine’s party, Queen of Hearts Games, included a wide range of games for the residents and students to play, as well as festive donuts, and good conversation.

Programs and events like this are organized by the St. John’s Home Therapeutic Recreation team, which strives to create engaging and impactful activities for all of our residents. February also marks the national observance of Therapeutic Recreation Month, a time to advocate, celebrate, and educate communities about the power of practice of recreational therapy for older adults.
