Resident Led Programs Encourage Wellness
Brickstone by St. John’s resident Anita Spoor spoke with News 8 WROC about the fitness program she leads every week. Music and Movement with Anita provides the residents of Brickstone with the chance to stay active — no matter their abilities.
“I want [the residents] to realize that if they keep moving and healthy,” said Anita, “they can continue to stay active for as long as they choose.”
Anita, who moved into Brickstone by St. John’s a little over a year ago, told WROC that “wellness is a spectrum” and requires daily work. She said that “everyone has been so supportive” regarding her class, and she is happy that St. John’s encourages her to cultivate her passion for fitness.
Wellness specialist Steve Gardner agrees with Anita that staying fit as you grow older takes work. Gardner leads over two dozen classes each week as part of the health and wellness programming offered to St. John’s independent living residents. The addition of Anita’s resident-led program certainly adds even more variety to an already robust calendar of programs.
