Fitch’s 75th Wedding Anniversary Celebration
Mason and Ginn Fitch, longtime Brickstone by St. John’s residents, recently gathered with family and friends to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. The couple, who met at a youth group over 75 years ago, spoke to local news stations about their relationship.
“Stick it out,” said Ginn. “We’ve had up and down, up and down. It hasn’t been all smooth.”
Mason, a United States Air Force veteran, agreed with his wife — telling the news that he would “always back her up, all the way.”
The couple, both from Penfield, shared the story of how they met with a large group of friends from the Brickstone by St. John’s community and their two daughters.
What started as a slight rebellion of kids wanting a night of dancing at the local youth group, turned into a 75-year partnership. Mason said he is glad his friend urged him to ask Ginn to dance, noting it was his best decision ever.
Ginn shared a few stories of her own, one in particular that truly demonstrates that it is the thought that counts when gift-giving.
She said the two started dating around Christmastime and when it came time to exchange gifts, she was surprised to see that she received a pair of hiking boots from Mason. Ginn said that in the moment she was very confused, as her girlfriends around her had received gifts like perfume from their boyfriends.
“I just smiled, and we have been hiking together for 75 years,” she said.
