New York Times Reporter and Author John Leland Comes to St. John’s
Several years ago, longtime New York Times Reporter John Leland began writing a series of articles for the paper about a handful of older adults living in New York City. Identified as America’s fastest-growing age group by previous census results, Leland set out on the project with preconceived notions of what he would hear about: namely, the challenges and negative impact on quality of life that growing older brings.
Leland’s articles were eventually collected in his third book, Happiness is a Choice You Make: Lessons From a Year Among the Oldest Old. The resulting narrative was much different than he anticipated, and he came to Rochester on September 26 to discuss the book with members of the Brickstone by St. John’s Book Club and at a public audience in the Wintergarden.
