Hawthorne Resident Pins New Military Rank on Grandson
St. John’s was honored to host a very special family event, over a decade in the making this month. Arline Stephany, a 103-year-old resident at the Hawthorne at St. John’s Meadows was asked to be a part of her grandson’s military rank promotion pinning ceremony.
Matthew Mahon, now Major Mahon, said he was “extremely grateful” that his grandmother could be a part of this moment. He also mentioned that 11 years ago, Arline was present at his first pinning ceremony and that it “is special to do it again with her.”
Arline was joined by family in Hawthorne’s Activity Room, including her daughter, granddaughter, another grandson, and their respective partners. She was able to meet her great-grandchildren, one of whom was born two weeks ago.
It was a truly wholesome family event filled with laughter and gratitude.
