RBJ Power List: Charlie Runyon

St. John’s President and CEO Charlie Runyon was featured on the Rochester Business Journal’s “Power List: Health Care” for his hard work and years of dedication.

Runyon answered a few questions for the publication about his accomplishments, changes he wished to see in the industry, and advice he would give young professionals. Runyon has served as President and CEO of St. John’s for 23 years and is most recently proud of the “newly formed, innovative strategic collaboration with the University of Rochester Medical Center.

This collaboration will help address the growing needs of regional hospitals facing overcapacity.

“Long-term care must be recognized as an integral part of the health care system,” says Runyon.

During his time at St. John’s, Runyon has steadfastly advocated for the needs of residents, employees, and long-term care as a whole. He urges government leaders and legislatures to put more time, focus, and resources into older adult care as the needs of the community grow.

In July, Runyon announced his plans to retire in February 2025. St. John’s Chief Financial Officer Robert Earl has been named Runyon’s successor.
