Active Aging at St. John’s

“There are so many programs, and you can be as busy as you want,” says St. John’s Meadows Resident Rina Baron. “I am so happy that I made the move.”

Rina is one of many residents who stay active as they age. With several physical and mental wellness programs, it is clear why people like Rina choose to move to St. John’s.

Rina is part of a weekly walking group led by fellow resident David Day. David says that “getting out into nature keeps the mind active.”

St. John’s Wellness Specialist Steve Gardner says. “Exercise can do wonders for the older adult population.”

“It can help with balance, strength, stamina, better sleep, improve circulatory problem, or help with back and joint pain,” says Gardner.

Marilyn Sottile says that the many activities offered have allowed her and her husband to meet “many wonderful and helpful people” since their move to Brickstone by St. John’s. Her husband Joe, a retired teacher and poet, hosts a monthly poetry class.

Another member of the walking group and Brickstone by St. John’s Resident is Anita Spoor. Anita leads a weekly exercise class.

Anita’s Music and Movement class, or M&M as many of her peers call it, started as a way for Anita to meet new people when she moved into her new home, as well as an opportunity to stay connected to her personal trainer days. Now almost a year later, Anita says “[residents] look forward to it, I am glad I can help them stay active.”
