The term person-centered care is a popular phrase that has been used throughout the long-term care industry for years. In truth, it is rare to find this type of care in action. The promise of individual care plans and freedom of choice for elders usually ends up looking a lot like the same old institutional nursing home care.

St. John’s is proud to announce that two members of our leadership team have been selected as winners of 2016 LeadingAge New York awards. Congratulations to President and CEO Charlie Runyon and Administrator of Skilled Nursing Rebecca Priest, who have been recognized among the best of New York’s nonprofit long term care, housing, and services providers.

St. John’s has been designated a Health Champion by the American Diabetes Association! This designation recognizes companies and organizations that inspire and encourage organizational well-being by meeting healthy living criteria in nutrition and weight management, physical activity, and organizational well-being.

St. John’s hosted the grand opening of Small Homes and the dedication of the Rose Neighborhood on Wednesday, March 2. The event featured speeches from shahbazim, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and tours of St. John’s first officially opened Small Home. Read more about Small Homes here.

Blue Man Group will put on the final show of their most recent stint here in Rochester tonight at the Auditorium Theater. But yesterday, members of the world famous musical tour group took part in a special afternoon performance. Four of the touring musicians from the show joined members of the Percussion Ensemble at St. John’s Home for a lively jam session.

Brickstone by St. John’s was meant to be a new, unique type of independent living community when it opened in 2014. The collaboration between St. John’s and SWBR Architects that brought the idea of new urbanism to life in the Rochester area has now been honored on a national level. These efforts to reinvent the concept of senior living have resulted in Brickstone by St. John’s receiving the Award of Merit from Environments for Aging (EFA) at its 20th annual Design Showcase. SWBR Architects served as architect of record for the Brickstone project.
