1:30 P.M.: Loretta Veney will take participants on her personal fifteen-year journey caring for her mom following her 2006 dementia diagnosis. She shares the importance of patience and forgiveness in caregiving and highlights the heartache and humor of dementia. Loretta then leads attendees through a LEGO building exercise that will help them conquer caregiving challenges through building (or rebuilding) joy and hope.
2:45 P.M. Loretta will join a panel of engagement experts, including St. Johns’ Dementia/Quality of Life Specialist Mimi DeVinney and Art for the Young at Heart Owner Kathleen Growney-Lorenzo, to provide attendees with tips for successfully engaging people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The group will reference examples from their decades of professional experience to help caregivers consider their own options for successfully engaging their loved ones in the meaningful activities.
